First I married a secret sports fan--after we got married he got ESPN and now there is sports on the TV 24/7!!! Then we moved to Palo Alto, where everyone's lives revolve around sports, and all our friends are sports fanatics! I have never in my life met people like this and when we go out I just stare into space because all conversation revolves around sports. I'm so bored I could die! What do I do?! Help!

I married him under the illusion that he was into music (he has a record label), but now he doesn't even mention it. It's also the company we keep--they keep him talking sports. Anyway, I'm really not complaining about HIM per se, just this sports thing. Plus the addition of the ESPN, we never had that pre-marriage. No, I don't try to change him because I know that doesn't work. So I just endure it. yeah, I do my own thing and usually drop him off at the sports bar. Oy vey! Thanks for listening.

Thu, October 14, 2004 - 11:47 AMi am so sorry to hear this. i would go nuts if i had a husband who turned out to be such a sports fan. i grew up in a house where my dad and brother were always watching sports so i can totally sympathize. they are both lovely aside from their sports fanaticism, so i am sure your husband is just as lovely aside from this flaw =) if i were you i'd suggest that maybe one or two days out of the week the tv is shut off completely and that you do something unsports related.
